To go to see Lake Mashu
There are 3 viewpoints of Lake Mashu which are Lake Mashu Viewpoint 1, Lake Mashu Viewpoint 3 and UraMashu Viewpoint. Lake Mashu viewpoint1 is usually seen in the guidebook. The road from Teshikagatown leads to Lake Mashu Viewpoint1 and Viewpoint3 which is about 3.5km away from Viewpoint1, and continues towards JR Kawayu Onsen Station. However, there is no usuful public transportation to Lake Mashu. How can we then go to Lake Mashu without car, rent a car or taxi? We now want to reccomend Biruwa-Mashu Trail. Why don’t you want to climb to see Lake Mashu by your foot？

Trail Info
At First, move by JR and stop at Biruwa Station between Mashu station and Kawayuonsen station. Start Walking from Biruwa Station. This trail is the 6th stage of Kitanemuro Ranchway. There is then route sign of Kitanemuro Ranchway. Length towards Lake Mashu Viewpoint1 is about 7km. Difference of altitude is about 400m. Soon after the walking, you can find the spring water you can drink. Please walk checking the signs of Kitanemuro Ranchway and the map.
Trail Info
Keep walking on the Forest road, watching the field. You need to be careful of the horseflies in July and August. You may not be able to stop due to too much horseflies.
You will then see the gate. Open and Close the gate. This gate is for protecting the field from the deer.
After the gate , the road will be in the forest, and you need to prepare for the bears.Please use whisle and bell not to encounter them.
On the Forest road, you will follow the sign and turn right to climb the walking trail. It is about 1.7 km from the begging of the trail to Lake Mashu viewopint 1.
