Dimple of Lake Mashu

Middle island “Kamuishu” is sometimes said to be a dimple of Lake Mashu. Kamuishu means old lady who became god. A strong leader of Kotan died in the battle and his mother escaped with his son. But she lost his son escaping in the mountain. She tries to find him everyday. One day, she finally comes to Lake mashu and prays for Mt Mashu “Kamui Nupuri” meaning god mountain to take rest. When she was taking rest in the middle of the lake, she became island due to sadness and tiredness. This island is Kamuishu. Height of the island is 31m above lake surface. This is just a top of the mountain which height is 240m from the bottom of the lake.
