Smallest Peninsula?

If you think Arabia, Scandinavian, Shireoko…, Yes they are peninsula.  It is said that peninsula is a land which part of the land outwards to the water area. Teshikaga- town does not have sea but there is a peninsula. Lake Kussharo was formed by volcanic activity about thirty thousand years ago. Volcanic activity continued and Lava dome island was formed. Long time passed and sand sediment was stores between island and land and peninsula was formed. wakoto was called O-ya-kotsu meaning tail attached to land. Wakoto was named in 1921.

Town Natural Monument listed in Teshikaga Town

This is “Marigoke” listed in Town Natural Monument in 1964 as forming process was valued. Water plant growing at the bottom of the lake was tore off, become together and rolled around at the beach of the lake. It used to exist at Wakoto Peninsula, but beach area becomes smaller due to lake wall contraction, and you cannot find Marigoke at Wakoto now. Marigoke is now very valuable existence. Marigoke is displayed in Kawayu Eco-Museum Center after getting permission.

Stay Slowly

Wakoto Nature trail is set at Wakoto Peninsula. Not only Walking, you can enjoy fishing, canoeing and taking onsen. One day is not enough to enjoy everything at Wakoto. Please enjoy activities with facilities.

●Wakoto Field House Please stop by before start walking. Nature information and walking points are displayed. Open: End of April – end of October 8:00~17:00

●Wakoto Camp site It was renewed in 2014. Show room and Coin laundry are set. Open: Mid of June – end of September. Administration is in Wakoto Field House.

●Wakoto Kohan Camp site It is located in Northern base of Wakoto Peninsula, and campers can enjoy playing along the lake.
