Wakoto Nature Trail

What is Wakoto Peninsula?

About 2.5km Wakoto Nature Trail is set on Wakoto Peninsula where you can see cute wild flowers on. The best season to see cute wild flowers is from May to July. Wakoto Peninsula has a characterstic of high geothermal heat as you can see a volcanic activity at the tip of the peninsula called “Oyakotsu Jigoku”. The reason cute wild flowers bloom here is this high geothermal heat. Type of Cricket called “Madarasuzu” also lives around “Oyakotsu jigoku”. Because moss can be seen around small holes emmiting warm water vapor around “Oyakotsu jigoku”, taking a role of being like a matyress, “Madarasuzu” can live here through the year even in the severely cold winter. Therefore, Wakoto Peninsula is a wonderland for plants, insects and even for us!
